What We Do

We specialise in the management of match day officials for sporting leagues.  We take care of all the tasks that your volunteers or committee traditionally send countless hours doing - rostering, recruiting, training and development, accreditation pathway planning and referee/umpire payments.

Who We Are

Event Horizon Sports is a Tasmanian-based business with a background across many varied sports.  We are passionate about officiating and

one of our primary goals is to provide the best possible professional development environment for our officials by not only having mentor programs for our younger referees and umpires but also using the latest video tools for in-season coaching.  We also work closely with our people to achieve accreditation standards and progress through the professional development pathway.

Meet the Director

Pat Merrick has been involved in sports for over thirty years and has decades of experience in officiating, coaching, playing and administration - both in Australia and in the United States.

Pat has a compliance background and has studied Sports Law and Athlete Development in High Performance Programs while also holding tertiary qualifications in Strategic Management, Organisational Behaviour and Human Resource Management.  He is a Member of the North American Society for Sport Management, the Risk Management Institute of Australasia and the Association of Luxury Suite Directors.

Pat has previously worked for the Australian Football League as well as in a General Manager role for a Tier 1 Australian Rules football club.  He has an extensive background in consulting having spent many years with CGI, one of the largest business consulting firms in the world and has worked across several agencies within the Tasmanian Government.
